Book arts - Mysterious paper sculptures left in Edinburgh libraries - Central Station Blog post

Mysterious paper sculptures - Central Station Blog post:
Mysterious paper sculptures
Guardian article, 3rd March 2011:

One day in March, staff at the Scottish Poetry Library came across a wonderful creation, left anonymously on a table in the library. Carved from paper, mounted on a book and with a tag addressed to @byleaveswelive - the library's Twitter account - reading:"

It started with your name @byleaveswelive and became a tree.…
... We know that a library is so much more than a building full of books… a book is so much more than pages full of words.…
This is for you in support of libraries, books, words, ideas….. a gesture (poetic maybe?)

8 days left ! The Zen Book of Hours by Moira Brown » Kickstarter

The Zen Book of Hours by Moira Brown » Kickstarter:

See the painting project from my friend who's nearly completed her Kickstarter funding project. You get a thick book of 365 paintings from her gardens, showing "the forgotten or overlooked corners, sometimes awkward, sometimes full of humor. They are quiet voices, unexpected glimpses of Grace made manifest."

"... eight days to go... so much love to those who are jumping in..."

Interesting pattern from Jinny Yu that reminds me of the endpapers for a book I reviewed recently - Pictorial Webster's: A Visual Dictionary of Curiosities. Jinny's work is being shown this month at The Convent of St. Cecilia in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

The pattern on the endpapers and the edge of the pages makes use of all the type that was stamped with a linotype machine for the captions of the book. All the type was cast together and printed with different colors.

More delicious marbled endpapers. The technique to spatter the white speckles over the whole completed design is called "antiquing", applied right before the paper is laid down into the basin.
